Flintlock Jack
SW600 Films

Happy to share a behind the scenes look at the VFX work I supervised and led for the short film Flintlock Jack.

The primary goal was to take the incredible practical prosthetics provided by Millennium FX and push them beyond physical limits.

By utilizing 3D laser scans of the original makeup, I sculpted a photoreal digital double and match-moved it directly to the actor's performance. This technique allowed us to introduce impossible anatomy, creating deep holes and negative space right through the face that simply could not be achieved practically. The climax of this sequence features a complex, seamless transformation shot that morphs the creature from a decomposed digital state back to a look much closer to the original practical prosthetics.

To complete the supernatural aesthetic, I generated custom smoke simulations for the soul-snatching effect and combined traditional compositing workflows with generative AI to create the victims' soulless appearances.

The entire pipeline for these complex enhancements was processed in 9K, utilizing Nuke, Blender, FaceBuilder, FaceTracker, and EmberGen.

A big thank you to the cast and crew for all their work, and the team at Millennium FX for some amazing work on the prosthetics.
